Vision & Values
Counsel of Tlamantinis
Macuil Xochitl, co-founder of Danza Xitlalli in San Francisco, created the Council of Tlamatinis (Wise Ones), to provide guidance and support to the leadership as needed. The Council consists of six Elders who are members of Xitlalli and come from diverse backgrounds, including urban and rural communities. Among them are activists, artists, poets, grandmothers, grandfathers, and professionals with strong ties to the community.
Danza Xitlalli’s Vision
To honor our Indigenous ancestors and the Natural World by keeping our ceremonial and traditional ways alive for our community and future generations. Through speaking our truths, telling our stories, singing our songs, and dancing, we reconnect with our true history, remembering where we come from and who we are. Our danza circle creates a sacred and safe space for sharing Indigenous traditions and knowledge with the community.
We provide a nurturing environment for youth to engage with these traditions and pass on ancestral wisdom, raising awareness of the enduring presence and significance of Indigenous people and culture. Our ceremonies honor our ancient traditions while supporting the evolution of Indigenous culture to be more inclusive.
Danza Xitlalli also advocates for access to Indigenous spiritual spaces and addresses community needs through cultural empowerment and engagement. As an intergenerational circle, we have played a vital role in preserving cultural traditions and have built strong connections with the intertribal Native community in the Bay Area and beyond.
Our Values
Please note that these are profound concepts with deep significance. The summaries below are simplified and presented humbly for the sake of brevity.
-
Unity, coming together, and inclusion.
-
Conform to the traditions while meeting the needs of the community.
-
Conquer more hearts to live well and help restore balance to the earth. By supporting those in our community who feel lost, we give them a reason to live, heal, and thrive.
